Mid July sees an explosion of creativity in Nelson as three major art-related events kick off simultaneously on the weekend of 11 – 13 July: the Nelson Winter Music Festival, Art Expo Nelson and Light Nelson. With 17 days of concerts and live music, over 1000 artworks for sale at the Expo and Light Nelson’s dramatic light-based installations transforming the Queen’s Gardens after dark, there is plenty to entertain, stimulate and inspire.

Art Expo Nelson
Art Expo Nelson is a three-day show promoting over 1000 artworks from more than 100 South Island artists. Browse unique and affordable art by talented painters, ceramists, sculptors, jewellers, photographers and more. With an onsite café to relax, chat, debate and deliberate over your surrounding art choices.

Nelson Winter Music Festival
Nelson Winter Music festival opens 11 July 2014 featuring 19 performances with a mix that includes Chamber Music, Jazz, Circus theatre, NZ icons Dave Dobbyn and Don McGlashan.
Nelson by day, Music by night is this year’s theme, evocative of days visiting leafy wineries, browsing galleries and boutique shops, kayaking, or cycling then returning to the city at night for concerts in the Nelson’s heritage venues.

Light Nelson is set to brighten up the winter with an outdoor gallery of installations from over 30 artists, in the city’s historic Queens Gardens. Art, science and technology combine in inovative media including laser technology, digital imagery, performance, music and poetry.

NMIT Creative Industries
Tutors, students and graduates from NMIT's Creative Industries programme have contributed artwork and installations to both Art Expo Nelson and Light Nelson. The Creative Industries purpose-built arts and media facility is a hub for arts and media education where students studying contemporary music, visual art, design, interiors and writing come together to engage with and add to the creative culture of the Nelson region.
