Karaka, Miro and Rata are three beautifully restored 1950's cottages on the shore of the Waimea Inlet, near Mapua village.

Our organic property is a mix of fruit trees, vineyard, gardens, and regenerating native New Zealand bush which stretches around the estuary shore.
Located in the heart of the Tasman region and surrounded by the vineyards of Nelson’s wine country, the accommodation at Matahua makes an ideal base for day trips around the region. We are just 2 km from the Great Taste Tasman Cycle Trail. There is a wide range of outdoor pursuits to choose from, including hiking, cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, and fishing. There are also many beautiful rivers and beaches for swimming and picnicking.
The cottages are well equipped for the simple pleasures of a relaxing holiday with hammocks, good books, board games, barbecues, braziers and endless views to gaze at. On a full tide you can explore the quiet estuary by kayak or paddle board.
Each cottage is secluded and private, with their own decks and garden areas.
Matahua is just 20 minutes (24km) from Nelson airport and less than 5 minutes to the coastal village of Mapua. Mapua’s thriving wharf area has cafés, restaurants and galleries.
