A pocket paradise nestled in the top northwest corner of the South Island, the entire area is said to resemble the prow of the waka (canoe) of Maui, an important figure in Māori mythology, and was known by the Māori as Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka a Maui (the prow of the canoe of Maui).

The region takes in sweeping beaches, fertile farmlands and lush native forest, mountains and crystal clear lakes. It is a place where you will find artists and craftspeople, Māori marae, farm and orchard settlements, alternative communities and adventurers enjoying more sunshine hours than any other region in New Zealand.

Nelson Tasman Tourism is the Regional Tourism Organization for the Nelson Tasman region and provides assistance to both travel trade and media visiting and researching the region.

Working with members of the Nelson and Marlborough IMG, Nelson Tasman Tourism hosts wholesalers, specialised retail travel trade personnel, visitor centre staff and Tourism New Zealand staff who visit Nelson Tasman. These visits enable these key industry personnel to experience first hand the products/services in the region.
