Itinerary:

Day 1:  Nelson - Punakaiki.  Enjoy this dramatic coastal drive.  Check out the tide to see Pancake Rocks at their best.  Overnight Punakaiki

Day 2:  Punakaiki - Greymouth.  Greymouth - Christchurch.  Discover Arthurs Pass by rail - the 'must do' TranzAlpine awaits you.  Overnight Christchurch.

Day 3:  Christchurch.  Enjoy the day in Christchurch punting the Avon, or maybe take a tour to Akaroa to see the dolphins.  Overnight Christchurch.

Day 4:  Christchurch - Kaikoura.  Sample some fo the local seafood or take a trip to see the whales.  Overnight Kaikoura.

Day 5:  Kaikoura - Nelson.  Make your way back for depature, or there are plenty of options if you wish to endulge a little longer.  Depart Nelson.
