The Nelson Tasman region is thrilled to be hosting three international Rugby teams during Rugby World Cup 2011 in September/October 2011. Nelson City and Trafalgar Park welcomes all international visitors and domestic travellers whether you are a Rugby supporter or a supporter supporting a supporter.
We're here to be the best host city of the Tournament and we have a wonderful outdoor playground for you to enjoy. If the outdoors is not your game, spend some time exploring our craft breweries, aromatic wineries and fantastic arts and crafts studios and galleries. During Rugby World Cup 2011 we will also be hosting the internationally acclaimed 'Banksy' urban art exhibition. For those needing some R & R during event festivities drop into one of our wellness spas or grab a bite to eat (or drink) at one of our many great restaurants, cafes, bars or retail outlets.
For real Rugby enthusiasts, spend some time learning about why Nelson is the birthplace of Rugby in New Zealand and attend the re-created first Rugby game at the original ground prior to the first international game Italy vs Russia on 20 September 2011. The following week switch up the focus to support the Italy vs USA game on 27 September, just a few days later, Australia vs Russia on 1 October.
