The London Klezmer Quartet's old and new melodies on fiddle, clarinet, accordion and double bass, and colourful stories about musicians' lives and times, take you on a journey from the Baltic to the Black Sea and beyond, delving deep into the celebratory and soulful music of Jewish eastern Europe. Their acoustic sound, choice of repertoire, and combination of technical ability and musicianship give them appeal across the musical spectrum, with bookings not only for folk and world music venues, but also jazz clubs, museums, art galleries, and classical music societies.
Formed in 2009 by four London-based klezmorim with a shared interest in the traditional playing style, LKQ is one of a handful of bands in the world also leading the dances this music would traditionally accompany: their 'klezmer keilidhs' are dance-your-socks-off events for all ages. Their new CD, ‘To the Tavern" is their fourth, and tells a day-long story that they recreate in performance, combining the subtleties of the original tradition with a kick-the-chairs-over ability to party.
AND that is what we will do kick-the-chairs over and party in the gorgeous Fairfield Courtyard on a beautiful summer's evening!!
Two stages, three epic nights. Live music returns to Tahunanui Beach this summer with the finest local bands and musicians performing on three Friday evenings. There will be something for everyone at these family-friendly events.
A dedicated Youth Zone will showcase the region’s finest up and coming young performers, with an assortment of local rides and attractions also operating especially for the events. A heap of ‘have a go’ beach themed sports, games and interactive challenges will also be on offer.
The Grass Stage is set to include a talented line-up of home grown acoustic acts performing your favourite summer time anthems. Kick back, relax and enjoy the sounds of summer in this majestic setting by the beach.
Tahuna Summer Sounds is a free community event dependent on fine weather. If wet, the events will be rescheduled to the next day (Saturday).
