Welcome to Nelson Tasman! ...where it's all here, all year!

Located in the north-west of the South Island, the sheltered Nelson Tasman region enjoys a mild, sunny climate, perfect for exploring the region's three national parks including New Zealand's most popular, the Abel Tasman National Park, just 60 minutes from Nelson City.  Boutique wines, seafood and fresh local produce are our specialty. Cuisine as it should be; fine, fresh and local. Over 350 full-time artists live and work here and draw their inspiration from the landscape.

Tourism in Nelson Tasman

Tourism in Nelson Tasman is fundamental to our community and one of the region's major economic drivers - Kiwis have been holidaying here for years; drawn by the diverse natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle. Today, Nelson Tasman is enjoyed by a growing number of international visitors, predominantly from Australia, UK/Europe and North America. While Nelson Tasman caters well for groups, our visitors are mostly independent travellers. We see a high proportion of second-time visitors here, who tend to stay longer and have a higher spend.

We are also keen to explore and engage with new and emerging markets from India, China, Japan, Thailand and other Asian countries, who are keen on developing small and large group travel options for their clients.

The region has a good range of commissionable activities and high quality accommodation, and we are proud to have one of the highest rates of Qualmark businesses in the country.

Visitor Seasonality

Domestic visitor numbers in Nelson Tasman peak from late December to mid-January, when New Zealanders take their traditional summer holiday break. February and March are the peak months for international visitors, and it is advisable to pre-book at these times.

Winter, spring, summer or fall...
we’ve got it all!
